Rum is a beautiful spirit. And it’s particularly spectacular in the summer—especially when paired with a fine Cohiba Robusto and a view of the ocean. (As I’ve written before, it’s the season when I set aside my beloved single malts in favor of sweet but formidable rums that complement the blistering heat.)

In simple terms, there’s light and dark. Then there are categories and styles (such as Authentic Caribbean Rum and Rhum Agricole) that only connoisseurs are familiar with. And that’s not even taking into consideration the regulatory classification system, Denominación de Origen, that’s specific to Latin rums.
